Decorate your yard and grow your favourite vegetable by building a grow box and trellis combo! This idea is great for owners who are living with a limited garden space.
You can use any kind of timber for this DIY project since your plants won’t be in contact with it. Here, your soil will be contained in grow buckets while the purpose of the timber planter box is to help regulate soil temperature and moisture levels. It also serves as a stable foundation for the trellis.
Of course this would be a great decoration for your outdoor area, too, so be fancy with the trims as you want or paint/stain it according your style.

You’ll need these materials:
- Growing Buckets (5-gallon Bucket, 10-gallon or 15-gallon Nursery Pot)
- Off Cut Timber, Pallets or Reclaimed Timber
- 15″ x 4′ Cattle Panel or 1/2″-3/4″ Wood Strips (for trellis)
- Wood Screws
- Paint or Stain (optional)
And these tools:
- Measuring Tape
- Saw
- Miter Saw (optional)
- Cordless Drill
